Model order reduction for gas and energy networks

Abstract To counter the volatile nature of renewable energy sources, gas networks take a vital role. But, to ensure fulfillment contracts under these circumstances, vast number possible scenarios, incorporating uncertain supply and demand, has be simulated ahead time. This many-query network simulation task can accelerated by model reduction, yet, large-scale, nonlinear, parametric, hyperbolic partial differential(-algebraic) equation systems, modeling natural transport, are challenging application for order reduction algorithms. For this industrial application, we bring together scientific computing topics of: mathematical transport networks, numerical differential equation, parametric nonlinear systems. research resulted in (Model Order Reduction Gas Energy Networks) software platform, which enables modular testing various combinations models, solvers, methods. In work present theoretical background on systemic structured, data-driven, system-theoretic as well implementation associated experiments adapted models.
